How To Use Hypnosis To Help You
Sleep
Using hypnosis for sleep is one of the most effective means to overcome chronic insomnia.
Once you have seen a doctor to make sure the chronic insomnia is not due to any underlying medical condition, you
can start to use sleep hypnosis.
It helps if you have had a few hypnosis sessions to tune your mind and body to this method of falling asleep.
After that you can try the following method of self hypnosis.
This particular method is also called hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, and the theory behind it is that
the analyzing and critical thinking parts of the brain can be bypassed through the conditioning
of feelings, thinking and perception. It's goal is to create a trance like state. This calms and quietens the
brain, allowing you to go to sleep easily
Start by finding a quiet and peaceful place that is free from external disturbances and which is not too hot nor
too cold. Lie down comfortably and try to remain still during this process.
Gently close your eyes and start slow and deep breathing in a rhythmic manner. To start off with, take a few
breaths where you breathe through your nose, hold the breath for a count of 3 and breathe out through your mouth to
the count of 5. Then breathe normally but slowly. Concentrate on the breath going in and out of your body,
breathing in through you your nose and breathing out through your mouth, in a cyclical manner.
Starting from the head right down to the toes concentrate on each part of the body in turn and try first to
tense, then to relax the muscles of that area. Imagine the stress in the muscles going out of the body with each
breath that is exhaled.
Once the body is completely relaxed imagine yourself going down a spiral staircase which takes you to a place
that you feel is your ideal dream place. Go down one step at a time, pausing to breathe and enjoy the view at each
step. Imagine the things that you would like to see in that surrounding. This visualization can be of a serene
beach, calm hillside or a beautiful flower garden.
Feel yourself float gently into a peaceful dream like state. Slowly the body and mind will be at peace and with
repeated rhythmic breathing, soon you will enter into a deep deep sleep. This sleep will be rejuvenating and calming
and you will wake up refreshed and ready to face life again.
The use of hypnosis for sleep is one of the safest and most effective means to overcome insomnia. You may want
to try a guided sleep hypnosis in which case I recommend Glenn Harold's 'Deep Sleep Every Night' which you can buy
for from Amazon here for around $10.
